Beautiful secluded holiday cottages
in the Limousin, France
La Chataigneraie is a gite complex in a traditional French Farmhouse which sleeps 8. Everyone is welcome to come and simply chill-out, although you will discover we offer a lot more than just the simple pleasures of a holiday in France.
La Chataigneraie is situated in the magnificent Perigord/Limousin National Park and is set in it's own private grounds of 5 hectares of grassland and woods which are available to anyone staying at the Farmhouse. On-site facilities include a pets corner, table tennis, badminton, a pool table, darts, satellite TV, bicycles, a barbecue and a 10 x 4 metre swimming pool. Your children will love to swim in the pool; feed our chickens and collect eggs and play in the magnificent grounds.
The property is within walking distance of open countryside where there are many fine woodland walks and cycle paths, where you might catch a glimpse of wild boar , deer or birds of prey. Fishing permits are available for local lakes and rivers. There are also beautiful swimming lakes nearby at, St Esteph and Flavignac with large sandy beaches and picnic areas.
At the local village there is a bar, a fine restaurant, tobacconist, bakery and even a fish and chip van in Gorre.
Other local attractions include the famous market at Piegut-Pluviers, open every Wednesday morning, and many other local farmers markets in the surrounding villages open on different days through the week (check with us for times). There is a moto-cross track and karting track at Chalus, within 10 minutes drive and a model aircraft club nearby. Gents can try their hand at Clay Pigeon shooting (by arrangement) and Ladies have a choice of local beauticians for pampering or perhaps have a round of golf. Other local attractions include wine-tasting, porcelain factories, museums and the historically-minded can travel the route of Richard the Lion Heart. Richard Coeur de Lion was mortally wounded in the shoulder by a crossbow bolt during the siege of Chalus Chabrol and died within a week from gangrene. Alternatively visit the matryred village of Oradour sur Glane which is preserved as a monument to those who died in a notorious World War II atrocity.
